Chateau Merritt

Tucked away on a hillside in the Los Padres National Forest, between Mount Pinos and Sawmill Mountain, Chateau Merritt is nestled among the lofty pines on Tulip Place.

One mile from the main road, this bungalow-style two-bedroom unit sits atop a converted garage. Note: there is no full time residence downstairs. Private and spacious, both bedrooms welcome you with comfy queen beds. The cabin sleeps 2-4 people, depending on arrangements.

To the front the Tecuya Ridge is visible. The sun sets between San Emigdio Mountain (7480 feet) and Cerro Noroeste (8400 feet), cradled by the Apache Saddle. After sundown, darkness settles on the mountain and stargazers often enjoy clear views of the Milky Way and an occasional falling star.

Do you see something move out of the corner of your eye? You might have spotted rabbits, quail, or other wildlife common to the area as you enjoy your BBQ and outdoor dinning area.

On an autumn or spring visit, step out onto the patio to view the sunset over the mountains and allow a wonderful warm breeze to refresh you. Or relax with a good book on the deck in your twin chase lounge with a comfy mattress/pad.

In winter, temperatures dip and snow is possible. Too cold? Come inside and snuggle up on a huge L-shaped lazy couch near your wood-burning fireplace.

Both the indoor and outdoor sitting areas are perfect for mellow afternoons or evenings with a bottle of white wine and your favorite cheese and crackers.

Stroll down among the mountain roads for quiet reflection. If you prefer indoor activities, your cabin is equipped with Internet and TV.

Do you have small pets? In some cases we can accommodate. Please ask Carolyn for information when you call.

  1. Dropped by for a great weekend in the wilderness and some athletic events in the woods (Spartan Race). Carolyn’s place was the perfect spot. We had all that amenities needed, warm cozy cabin, hot showers, plenty of clean towels, and a bunch of helpful wilderness tips and information in a welcome binder. The Pin Mountain Club also comes with access to a golf course, a pool, etc. So much to check out but so little time!

  2. Carolyn’s super-host status truly describes her. She is an outstanding host who was available and quick to answer my questions, and who prepares my arrival with so much detail that made me feel really important and appreciated. She welcomed me with an amazing guide of things to do in the area. Clear instructions about each of the houses amenities, and tips about the weather, roads, and any other vital info you can think of. Besides her super hosting abilities the place is truly a gem. I went with a friend for a writing retreat and we decided we will keep coming to this one. The place is cozy, the sky is starred, the surroundings are very peaceful, truly a place where people can disconnect. She even has board games and movies that will allow you to connect with your travel partners. This place deserves all the stars that airbnb allows us to give. 10/10 I totally recommend it.

  3. Carolyn is the true definition of a Super Host. She was amazing at helping us out during our stay . Our first night temps dropped unusually low overnight and our pipes froze ( not anyone’s fault) Once we notified Carolyn, she was over with water in 15 minutes, and even offered us her own home to shower . Once they realized the pipe heater was not working, she had a replacement and fixed in hours. Also due to the cold weather, our battery in the car would not hold a charge. She brought a charger and extension cord for us to use during our stay ( had to use it more than once ) She was so friendly, respectful of our stay and amazingly thoughtful and prompt. Going forward we will only stay at Carolyn’s properties. If you want a perfect host , she is the one hands down !! Thanks so much for a great weekend!!

  4. It was an amazing experience. When we were there weather was 22 degrees but inside of cabin was so warm and comfortable. We ran out of propane gas for the BBQ and she provided one for us in less than 15 min If i return to pine mountain again, this cabin will be my first choice.

  5. It was a great place ! Nice getaway with my family ! Service was the only problem WiFi didn’t connect most of the time but overall I had a great time and beautiful view . Would definitely recommend this place to others.

  6. Carolyn was an amazing host! Very detailed and helpful with local tips. Made our stay for Christmas delightful and got to experience a white Christmas with snowfall here! Very clean and friendly

  7. Carolyn was very responsive. We booked last minute and she made it happen. The house was very clean and included all the essentials (e.g. Silverware, extra blankets, wifi). Also, there was a book with useful tips for any travelers such as hiking trails. The house was in a private location and had a great view from the balcony. Firewood stove was a neat touch.

  8. Carolyn’s place was a perfect getaway for my family and the outdoor seating on the deck with the view of the mountains is to die for. Carolyn was very quick to respond to all our questions and was kind enough to come pick us up when we lost our way to the property. I would love to visit again and spend more time there during winters. It’s a very quiet area and is the perfect way to unwind yourself from the hustle bustle of busy lives.
